SSC Announces Product Suggestion Technology Breakthrough 3/1/2008The ability to make effective product recommendations that have a high impact on shopper conversion has long been a "holy grail" of the online retail industry. Today Suite Spot Commerce has announced the filing of patents for a technological breakthrough that promises very effective product recommendations yielding much higher conversions than any current state of the art. The technology dubbed "Morphandize" flies in the face of current technology by using very little of the "collective wisdom" - information gained by watching all of a retail site's visitors. Instead, Morphandize pays attention to only the current shopper, and guesses what the shopper wants based on their shopping behavior. "The collective is really only wise in relation to the entire collective group." states CEO Daniel Hill. Because technology that uses the "collective wisdom" concept often makes associations based on very small percentages of truly similar behaviors, it often makes recommendations that aren't necessarily applicable. "It's like saying that because 10% of Muslims are jihadists that any Muslim shopper will want to buy a book about jihad." "Every shopper on a retail site defines their need a little differently. And even if the differences in those definitions are subtle - they're still important. The key to making a good recommendation is to listen to what the shopper is telling you - just like a sales associate in a physical store would." Currently the Morphandize technology is in beta testing on two of Suite Spot Commerce's client retail sites. The impact has been substantial with both companies posting record sales growth - despite a clearly weakening economy. More Information Links: www.morphandize.com
